Real Wedding Inspiration – Renée and Ben

By Shannon - Little Flamingo | March 15, 2012

Today we are sharing some elements from the gorgeous wedding of Renée and Ben. Renée came to us for her wedding stationery and was such a delight to work with.

I always love to know how the proposal happened for Renée and Ben, It was on their 10 year anniversary at sunset on the beach in Fiji – soooo romantic!!

When putting together their wedding Renée says: ”I wanted a simple elegant theme so opted for vintage colours; champagne and ivory tones with a little dusty pink thrown in. The bridesmaids dresses inspired the entire wedding. They were the first thing I bought for the wedding.”

“We live in a small mining town so knew we would be travelling elsewhere for our wedding! We decided on Margaret River as we love the gorgeous wineries and loved that our family and friends could also have a mini holiday down there. The ceremony and reception were at one venue, Brookland Valley Estate and Flutes Restaurant. We had a bus pick up the guests from their hotels in Margaret River and they were driven to the winery which was about 20 minutes away. We wanted a very small intimate wedding so only immediate family, grandparents and a couple of close friends were invited.”

“We wanted the guests to feel a part of our ceremony so we included a ring warming where our wedding bands were passed around the guests during the ceremony and they were able to make wishes or blessings for us.”

Following Renée and Ben’s wedding ceremony the bridal party went for their official photos while the guests played games on the lawn including croquet, bocce and giant scrabble!! I love this idea for a garden ceremony, not only does it gives your guests something to fill in the time between the ceremony and reception but it’s a great way to get guests talking and in the party spirit.

“The reception was awesome. We had one long table for all guests. The food was amazing (Flutes Restaurant are award winning). We had a guest book which my mum made and the polaroid camera for guests to take self portraits then stick their photo in the book with their message – it was a great hit. We also had wedding photos from our parents and relatives as far back as we could go.”

Table decorations were white vintage birdcages with candles along with small delicate handmade wooden flowers made by a village in the Philippines.

After all the formalities, Renée and Ben danced the night away before the midnight bus arrived to take all the guests home.

We asked Renée if there were any specially funny or crazy moments -
“hmmmm one of the groomsmen’s tie went missing so they decided not to wear ties. When the bus arrived, they noticed one of the guests was wearing a tie almost the exact colour of the one they were missing so they stole it off the guest and were able to wear their ties!”

A HUGE Congratulations to Renée and Ben and thank you for sharing your day with us. Sending love and best wishes to you both as you continue to share your future together xx

Lanterns and Lumaries – Wedding Inspirations

By Shannon - Little Flamingo | February 27, 2012

Candles and soft lighting always makes a room more romantic and a place more whimsical. Here are a few gorgeous image inspirations to bring lanterns and lovely lighting to your wedding day. Ahhhhh…. enjoy x

I adore the use of coloured lanterns used at Amanda and Michael’s wedding. Images captured by Tanya Lippert Photography

and this is one of my FAVOURITE images of wedding reception lanterns. I love the colour of the main centrepiece and how the fairy lights flow across the rest of the reception area. (Image credits same as previous)

What’s not to love about this image? Not only does the light dance off the water but I love the use of height with the lighting above the tables and the paper luminaries along the wharf. Image captured by Meg Perotti found via JL Designs

Gorgeously tall ceremony Aisle Lanterns via Style me Pretty captured by Yvette Roman. Shows you don’t need to use lanterns just at night!

You don’t need a big budget or a lot of lanterns to create that special feeling. If you are running low on your budget dollars, use a few simple and inexpensive white paper lanterns. via Style Me Pretty captured by Green Autumn Photography

Lanterns inside a marquee – love! Image via Atlantic Coastal Entertainment

On the beach captured by Meg Baisden Photography creates a gorgeous place for dancing!

Light up the evening with lovely soft lighting! Found via Style Me Pretty (remember you need a wet weather plan with an outdoor celebration!)

Lovely repurposed mason jars hang from the ceiling. Found via: Southern Weddings and captured by Amy Rae Photography
